Associate Dean of Students
Orientation, Transition & Retention
Marianne Huger Thomson serves as the Associate Dean for Orientation, Transition and Retention. In this role, Dr. Thomson oversees new student programming including Eagle Summit, Discover DC, Transfer Transitions, and extended-year transition programs. In addition, she partners with campus colleagues to support retention initiatives. She manages a caseload of students with significant medical, mental health, socialization and/or behavioral needs. Prior to her Associate Dean role, Dr. Thomson served as the Assistant Dean of Students and Interim Director of Disability Support Services.
In addition, Dr. Thomson teaches as an Adjunct Instructor at The George Washington University’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development. Prior to joining American University, Dr. Thomson served as the Director of Disability Services at Georgetown University Law Center.
