Justice, Law and Society
Avi-Yona is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Justice, Law, and Criminology. Her research combines law, philosophy, punishment, applied criminology, and social contract theory.
During law school, Avi-Yona was an associate editor for the University of Pennsylvania Law School Journal of Business Law; a teaching fellow for Penn Law's Youth Courts program; a teaching fellow for the Marshall Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project; a mock trial coach with Penn Law's Legal Education Partnership; and, a recipient of the Penn Law Exceptional Pro Bono Service Award.
After receiving her J.D., Avi-Yona served as a law clerk at the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. She also acted as Vice President and Secretary of Pennsylvania Lawyers for Youth (PALY), a nonprofit organization working to effect meaningful, community-responsive changes in the Pennsylvania juvenile justice system through advocacy-driven direct service and policy initiatives.
