Lucy Marie Bertocci

Lucy Bertocci is currently a senior at American University. She majors in both sociology, and interdisciplinary studies of communications, legal studies, economics, and government. She has spent time interning with several different organizations in DC. In the summer of 2012, she interned with the National Foundation for Women Legislators. During spring 2013, she spent a semester interning with the Sexuality Education and Information Council of the United States (SIECUS). In the summer of 2013, she interned with the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC). She’s become particularly interested in public health policy during her time at SIECUS and FRAC, and is hoping to continue work on those issues in the future.
Lucy also spent a semester abroad in Kenya during her junior year, where she interned at Amani Ya Juu, an organization that works with refugee women living in Nairobi.
On campus, Lucy is involved in the SPA Leadership program. During her first year in Leadership, she was part of a group, which created Snack Smart, a nutrition program taught to boys at the Life Pieces to Master Pieces after school program. During her second year, she developed a workshop called "Reading Leaders" which taught middle school age children the skill they need to read effectively to younger children, and teach vital pre literacy skills.
