I am writing to share the sad news of Professor Emeritus Donald Brenner's passing, and to invite you to a Memorial Service remembering his life and contributions this Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Kay Chapel. A reception will follow in the Kay Lounge.
Professor Brenner began teaching at what was then AU’s School of Business Administration as an adjunct professor in 1957 after earning his law degree from The Ohio State University. In 1971, he joined the faculty on a full-time basis, rising to the rank of Professor in 1979. Throughout his time here, in addition to pursuing scholarly work in the areas of commercial and real estate law, he extended himself in manifold ways on behalf of the school and university. Professor Brenner served as department chair, as acting dean of the business school, as a member (often as chair) of numerous school and university committees, and in many important advisory capacities. Professor Brenner retired from the university with emeritus status in 2003.
Professor Brenner's love of teaching and availability to students was palpable and infectious, earning the respect and appreciation of countless students, their parents, and his colleagues. Indeed, the Kogod School of Business established the Donald R. Brenner Undergraduate Teacher of the Year Award in 2002 in ongoing celebration of Professor Brenner's devotion to teaching.
Our thoughts are with Professor Brenner's family at this time. He will be dearly missed.
