COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION – REGALIA ORDERS DUE NOVEMBER 6

American University’s fall commencement ceremony will be held Wednesday, December 16 at 1:00 p.m. in Bender Arena.  

This ceremony will honor August 2015 graduates and December 2015 expected graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences, Kogod School of Business, School of Communication, School of International Service, and School of Public Affairs.

I encourage faculty to participate in their school’s commencement, as this is an important way of honoring our newest graduates and recognizing their accomplishments.  

The fall commencement ceremony was added to accommodate the growing number of August and December graduates and to help relieve overcrowding at our spring commencement ceremonies.  

Please note the following important updates:

FACULTY/STAFF PARKING – SIS and Sports Center garages

On Wednesday, December 16, faculty and staff with valid parking passes (issued by AU Parking & Traffic Services for use during the year) will be able to park on campus. Everyone is encouraged to use public transportation.

Faculty and staff will be directed to park in the SIS garage and the Sports Center garage. 

The Katzen garage will be reserved for graduates and their guests; graduates will receive a special commencement parking pass with their regalia rental. More details are forthcoming and will be posted on the commencement website.  

TICKETING OF THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

Students participating in fall commencement will receive six tickets each, for guests. Faculty and graduating students will not need tickets. The ceremony will also be shown live at a remote viewing location in the Ward Circle Building and will be live streamed on the commencement website.

FACULTY ROBING – 45 minutes prior to commencement

Faculty participating in commencement will assemble in the Palmer-Kettler Lounge (second floor of the Sports Center, overlooking Bender Arena) 45 minutes prior to the ceremony. The ceremony is approximately two hours, followed immediately by school and college receptions.  

RENTING REGALIA – orders due November 6

If you wish to participate in a commencement ceremony but do not own academic attire, you may rent standard black regalia (with a mortarboard cap, unless otherwise specified) by completing the attached form and submitting it to the Campus Store.

Payment must be received by Friday, November 6. Regalia may be picked up at the Campus Store:

·Monday, December 14 (9 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

·Tuesday, December 15 (9 a.m. – 7 p.m.)

Regalia must be returned to the Campus Store by 5 p.m., Wednesday, December 16.
