American University has joined the Chengdu American Center for Study Abroad as a principal partner, which will provide an alternative site for undergraduate study in China for AU students. In addition, this relationship will allow opportunities for AU faculty to teach in Chengdu and to deliver other types of academic programs using the Chengdu Center facility and administrative structure.
Hosted by Sichuan University on its beautiful Huaxi Campus in downtown Chengdu, (Sichuan Province in Southwestern China), the Center is a joint initiative between the Chengdu Municipal Government and Global Maximum Educational Opportunities (g-MEO). AU joins four other U.S. higher education institutions as its principal partners. The Center hosted the first group of US college students during the Spring Semester 2013 and is now hosting its second class.
Attendance at the Center is open to students from all accredited U.S. universities and colleges. Students are also encouraged to take some Chinese language and culture courses in addition to those related to their majors which are taught in English and offered by its principal partners. Those students interested in combining academics with experiential learning may choose to engage in internship or volunteer activities either during the semester, or in summer.
Students interested in study abroad placement in Chengdu should contact AU Abroad. Applications for spring 2014 attendance have been extended to October 31st.
