|SUBJECT:||Dr. Michael J. Ginzberg, Dean of the Kogod School of Business|
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael J. Ginzberg as Dean of the Kogod School of Business effective July 1, 2011.
Dr. Ginzberg is currently Associate Provost of Yeshiva University and Dean of Yeshiva’s Sy Syms School of Business, where he holds an appointment as Professor of Management and Information Systems. In this role, he led the development of a strategic plan to transform the school’s faculty, academic programs, and culture. Prior to his tenure at Yeshiva, he was dean of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware, where he excelled in building the school’s profile through executive education programs, research centers, and contracts to offer graduate education through relationships with international agencies.
A seasoned and experienced leader, Ginzberg is enthusiastic about the opportunity to cultivate the development of a thriving community of faculty, staff and students. The Kogod School of Business is well positioned to move to new levels of distinction in the competitive environment of business education. I am confident that Michael Ginzberg is the right person at the right time to help Kogod reach new heights. He is committed to helping faculty align their curriculum, teaching, and scholarship interests with a distinctive and a compelling position among the nation’s business schools. Under his leadership, the Kogod School of Business will serve as a magnet for business students and set the pace for scholarship that has impact in Washington and around the world.
Ginzberg’s appointment as the dean of Washington’s first business school comes at a time when the Kogod School of Business is experiencing a rise in national rankings, investing in faculty research, and expanding its degree portfolio of 10 programs to include a new Master of Science in Sustainability Management. As Dean Ginzberg sees it, “Kogod is an outstanding school poised for further growth and distinction. Given AU’s historic strengths in policy, its strong international reputation, and the opportunities in the nation’s capital, our students and faculty can have an impact in both business and government, standing out from other top business schools.”
A prolific scholar whose interests focus on how investments in technology create value for business, as well as the impact of technology on corporate governance, Ginzberg has published numerous articles and books in the field of Management and Information Systems. His faculty appointments include those at Case Western Reserve University, NYU, and Columbia, as well as at institutions in Italy, Hungary and the Netherlands. He earned a PhD in Management from the Alfred Sloan School of Management at MIT, where he also earned his undergraduate degree in Management; he also holds an MBA from Iona College.
I want to thank search committee chair, Dr. Heather Elms, as well as the entire committee for their extraordinary commitment of time and talent. This team of Kogod faculty, staff and students as well as a member of the Kogod Advisory Council and another of AU's deans did an exceptional job of identifying qualified candidates, thoroughly vetting them, and guiding them through the process that has brought Michael Ginzberg to AU. I am grateful for their work.
Dr. Ginzberg plans a transition period at AU beginning June 1, and he will have ample opportunity to effect a smooth transition as Dean Richard Durand completes his term on June 30. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Michael Ginzberg as the new dean of the Kogod School of Business.
