|SUBJECT:||Adjunct Faculty Unionization Efforts|
I want to inform you that the Service Employees International Union, Local 500, has filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) seeking to be your certified representative. The filing of the petition is the beginning of a legal process that may culminate in a democratic election in which you will be given the opportunity to vote on whether or not you wish to be represented by the union. This week, the NLRB is reviewing the petition to determine compliance with the laws governing the NLRB election process.
Should the petition meet all requirements, an election will follow. Given the NLRB regulations, it is possible that the election could happen just prior to the start of the spring term. We will do all we can to foster a vigorous exchange that facilitates your free and informed choice, but given the potentially tight schedule this goal may prove to be a challenge. Throughout this process, we will be guided by strict adherence to NLRB rules.
Additionally, to ensure maximum transparency, we will launch a new page on the university website that will serve as a repository for all university communications on this matter and as a resource for you and all involved in this process.
My office will continue to keep you apprised of all significant developments. Before the holiday break, I will provide an update, along with the new website address and next steps in the process. If you have additional questions, please email me at email@example.com. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
