|SUBJECT:||Retirement of University Registrar Linda Bolden-Pitcher|
After 38 years of dedicated service, University Registrar Linda Bolder-Pitcher has announced her retirement from American University effective February 28, 2011. For nearly four decades, Linda has been a steady force providing stability and continuity in the Office of the Registrar.
Working her way up within the ranks of the Office of the University Registrar, Linda has long been the go-to person who has moved AU through many transitions in student services. During her tenure, the student academic records system was upgraded from a mostly paper-based system to a list of cutting edge, web-based processes. The list of advancements includes online registration and transcripts, a degree audit program, and a portal presence that allows students to access nearly all of their academic records online. Her team also supported faculty needs with the development and implementation of electronic enrollment rosters and submission of final grades to name a few. She was also instrumental in the implementation and on-going upgrades of Datatel Colleague and establishment of AU Central. Most recently, Linda led a major review and reorganization of the Office of the University Registrar. Unflappable, never complaining, determined, and exceedingly dedicated, Linda has always been there to propose and take on challenging assignments. Her commitment to empowering others and to providing an atmosphere of success for AU and the Office of the University Registrar has been exemplary.
President Kerwin, who has worked closely with Linda in her capacity as Registrar, remarks, “For almost four decades Linda Bolden-Pitcher has worked tirelessly on behalf of the students, faculty, and alumni of American University. During her tenure as University Registrar, she has ensured proper compliance with our academic regulations while preserving the accuracy and quality of our academic records. While these are crucial to the life of our University, Linda’s leadership was invaluable through major changes in both programs and technology. Through it all, she infused the Office of the University Registrar with an ethic of service that is second to none. She is a person of great accomplishment, deep integrity, and unstinting generosity. The legacy she leaves is simply remarkable.”
Linda is one of a handful of individuals who has given their entire professional careers to leadership positions at AU – always supportive and always willing to rise to the occasion. She graduated from AU’s College of Arts and Sciences with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. As an undergraduate, she worked for the Registrar’s office as a student assistant and was later hired as Assistant to the Office Manager in July 1974. Over the years, she has held several progressively responsible administrative positions. In 2002, after serving as Senior Assistant University Registrar for six years, Linda was appointed University Registrar.
Linda Bolden-Pitcher’s departure marks an important milestone and will be a tremendous loss for the AU community. Please extend your appreciation to Linda for all she has done for AU, and join me in wishing her the very best in her retirement.
