In addition to providing and maintaining the software in our labs, the Social Science Research Lab also acts as a distributor for several software packages.

EasyReg

EasyReg (short for Easy Regression) is an open source econometrics software package developed at Pennsylvania State University. It sports a point and click interface and has functions similar to Eviews and Stata. This software is available at Herman J. Bierns' Website'.

PSPP

PSPP is an open source statistical software package which is compatible with SPSS. Full file compatibility .sav files makes this a good at home compliment to SPSS.

Eviews

In order to receive an academic discount for purchasing Eviews proof of academic affiliation is required. Fortunately the SSRL provides verification that a student or faculty member is eligible for the discount.

Eviews normally comes with documentation in PDF forms; however, for an additional charge, Eviews can ship with hard copies of all documentation, as well as supplemental literature.

SAS

The SSRL distrubutes SAS software package on a limited basis to Faculty and Graduate Students at a limited cost. For more information please contact SSRL via telephone or Email.

SAS 9.2 software is available for Windows XP, Vista and Linux distributions.

SPSS

We will install SPSS on AU owned computers under the unversity's license.
If you wish to aquire a copy of SPSS for your personal computer, a free fourteen-day trial is available for SPSS 17 "Statistics Base" at this web site. If you are interested in using the software for longer then the trial period, you can rent a copy from e-academy.com on a six-month, or yearly basis, or you can purchase the graduate student pack.

Versions are also available for Mac OSX (10.4 and above), and several Linux distributions.

STATA

Faculty and students can take advantage of AU's subscription to GradPlan to receive a discount. After you place an order with STATA you will be given information on when your software will be available.

Discounted Versions of STATA are available for students and faculty members. Students are eligible for STATA's GradPlan for regular or small STATA. STATA is available on Linux, Mac OS (both Intel and PowerPC), and Windows XP and Vista.

R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. R provides a wide variety of statistical (linear and nonlinear modeling, classical statistical tests, time-series analysis, classification, clustering, ...) and graphic techniques.
