The University Honors Program is dedicated to fostering a lifelong community of scholars.
There are several ways an Honors Alum can reconnect with the program:
- Complete the "Reconnect: Alumni Information" Survey
- Join Honors on Facebook
- Honorable Mentions Newsletter
- Attend Reunion/Networking Events
- Become a Mentor
- Donate
1. "Reconnect: Alumni Information" Survey
The University Honors Program is making a special effort to reconnect to our alumni and to help reconnect them with each other.
Please support Honors in this effort by completing the survey.
2. Honors on Facebook
Once reconnected, stay connected. Join our Honors Alumni Facebook Group and our Honors Fan Page to receive major program updates, find out information on reunion and networking events, and rediscover old friendships.
3. Honorable Mentions Newsletter
We invite you to look through our bimonthly newsletter, Honorable Mentions, which keeps you up-to-date on the Honors news, provides a snapshot of the day-to-day operation of the University Honors Program and highlights individual student and faculty activities and accomplishments.
Have an announcement of a notable achievement? Submit Honors related news for publication in our newsletter Honorable Mentions. Anyone can do it. Just send your news to honors@american.edu with your name, phone number, and whatever it is that you would like to tell us.
4. Reunion/Networking Events
The University Honors Program encourages its Honors graduates to participate in the many networking opportunities sponsored by American University throughout the year, including those hosted by the AU Career Center in cooperation with AU schools and colleges. Connect with students, fellow alumni, faculty, staff and employers, while enjoying complimentary hors d'oeuvres and other refreshments. Please check the alumni events calendar for upcoming networking and social opportunities.
5. Become a Mentor
One of the best ways Honors alumni can contribute to the University Honors Program is by devoting some time to mentor a current Honors student. Alumni interest and input are invaluable to our students. Alumni mentors report their experience is personally rewarding, too.
Mentoring arrangements are flexible and created to suit both the alumni mentor and student. With Honors students eager to connect with Honors alums, we hope you will consider becoming a mentor.
To become a mentor, you should first fill out the "Reconnect: Alumni Information Survey" and check "Yes" for the box that asks if you are interested in serving as an alumni mentor. Honors will follow up at the start of the academic year by sending you mentoring program details and requesting additional information.
6. Donate
One great way to show appreciation for your experience in Honors is to share it with the next generation through a financial contribution in any amount to the University Honors Program.
You can be sure that Honors will make full use of your contribution to continue to foster the special learning community that you experienced as a member of the University Honors Program.
To make a donation, follow the "Donate to Honors." From the list of Area/School options, select "University Initiatives" and then from the list of Fund options, select "University Honors Program."
