American University shares a campus-wide commitment to promote the values of human dignity through practical approaches to human rights and humanitarian law. The dedication to human rights is reflected in the wide range of specialty human rights courses and faculty profiles as well as faculty research and publications. Students have the opportunity to engage in a human rights dialogue on campus through numerous programs, projects, and centers along with a multitude of student groups. Internships in Washington, DC and around the world, as well as alternative breaks, provide students with hands-on practical experience. AU alumni move on to make substantial contributions in the field of human rights as civil society practitioners, government officials, journalists, lawyers and legal scholars.
