Talk about Truth in Journalism with Reporting Workshop

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, attend the Investigative Reporting: How It’s Done event and discussion at 7 p.m. in the Katzen Arts Center. Hosted by the School of Communication, the Investigative Reporting Workshop, and Bender Library—which houses the research and papers of the Workshop—the talk will feature bestselling authors Don Barlett and Jim Steele, as they discuss their book The Betrayal of the American Dream.

Barlett and Steele, who also wrote the book America: What Went Wrong?, have worked together as journalists for more than two decades. With stints at The Philadelphia Inquirer, Time magazine, and Vanity Fair magazine, the pair has received two Pulitzer Prizes for newspaper reporting and two National Magazine Awards for their magazine writing. For the past two years, they have been involved with the School of Communication’s Investigative Reporting Workshop at AU, inspecting how the practices of Wall Street and the bureaucracy of Washington, D.C., have impacted the modern American middle class.

The event will also feature welcoming remarks from SOC Dean Jeff Rutenbeck and will be moderated by bestselling author Charles Lewis, executive director of the Investigative Reporting Workshop at AU and the founder of the Center of Public Integrity. Questions from the audience, video presentations, and conversations with the panelists will follow the discussion, and The Betrayal of the American Dream will be available for purchase.

Prior to the event, refreshments will be served at 6:30 p.m.
