Modern and Contemporary Asian Art

This course explores art and architecture from a variety of traditions in East, South, and Southeast Asia. Students observe how artists and architects respond to issues such as political movements, personal and national identities, environmental changes and social inequality. Theoretical texts on topics of Asian cultural production are read in an attempt to account for national specificities, cultural differences and transnational practices. Meets with ARTH-496 001.
