Introduction to Game Studies

Students are introduced to key historical and contemporary research in game studies, design, and production. The course functions as a survey of game studies, exploring how games are a part of the wider ecosystem of communications. Key questions include what do games communicate; what messages do they send; how players interpret games; and how games are changing the way we communicate. The course takes an historical perspective investigating a wide range of case studies in games and examining the seminal researchers in the game studies field. Meets with GDES-196 001.
