Growing Artificial Societies
This online course covers agent-based simulation of aggregate social outcomes: growing artificial societies. It includes exogenous and endogenous growth, the Schelling model of neighborhood segregation, and evolutionary approaches to the emergence of cooperation in social dilemma models. The course provides an introduction to all needed computational tools and requires no previous programming experience. Meets with ECON-696 E01L.

Political Economy of Nation Building
This course analyses the origins of the liberal nation state, and its role in aiding economic development. The course has two parts: the historical origins of the liberal nation state in Great Britain during the late medieval and renaissance eras; and the implementation of institution building--rule of law, private property, separation of church and state, autonomous financial policy--of the liberal nation through technical assistance. Prerequisite: ECON-100 and ECON-200, or permission of the instructor. Meets with ECON-696 D01.
