L'ile Maurice et l'Inde

This course introduces students to the work of Indian writers writing in French and to Mauritian writers of Indian origin. The novels of the Indian Ocean and India allow students to study the effects of French colonialism and focus on issues such as multiculturalism, identity, assimilation, alienation and creole culture, and also view this literature through an historical and cultural lens. The literature of these regions remains an emerging field of critical study. The course includes interviews with the authors, videos of the regions which present evidence of the immigrant experience, and lectures by journalists and literary critics. Meets with FREN-696 001.
