Course Level: Undergraduate
Provides a basic overview of the historical developments of musical theatre and a study of the structural forms and content of the various genres, from fledgling musical attempts to the Golden Age to present-day musicals. Because modern musical theatre is a uniquely American art form, this course encourages students to examine the musical within evolving historical, social, political, and artistic milieus. Usually offered every fall. Prerequisite: PERF-115 and permission of instructor.
