Focuses on the history of the Kurds and their social and political institutions, cultural and social factors contributing to the rise of Kurdish nationalism in the Middle East, Kurdish search for identity and/or political autonomy, the socio-political impact on the countries they inhabit, and their ties to other minorities in the region. The course focuses on ethno-political tensions and conflicts in the Middle East, with particular focus on the Kurds as an identity group. It addresses topics related to domestic, regional, and international dynamics where the Kurds play a central role.
