SOCY-551Sociology of Latino Studies (3)
Course Level: Undergraduate/Graduate
Focusing on Latino populations and on Latino studies as an emergent field of study, this course references U.S. Latino populations as border populations, crossing over U.S./Latin American imaginaries. The "Latino" category helps problematize ethnic/racial categories, becoming a method of hybridity discussions. Though interdisciplinary, the course has a strong sociological foundation. Usually offered every spring. Prerequisite: three courses in sociology. Recommendation: SOCY-210, SOCY-351, or SOCY-354.
