European Public Affairs and Advocacy Institute
Modeled on the internationally-recognized Public Affairs and Advocacy Institute, but in a European context, this institute in Brussels, Belgium introduces students to the art and craft of lobbying in the European Union (EU). Students are immersed in the strategies, tactics, methods, techniques, regulations, and ethics of lobbying in Europe. Drawing on their rich body of experiences, prominent lobbyists involved in all aspects of their profession offer lectures on EU legal systems, rule making, EU relations with national capitals, EU-United States relations, and comparisons between U.S. and European policy making. SIS Summer Abroad Programs
Israel and Palestine
The intensive program begins with a week-long seminar in Jerusalem where leading Israeli and Palestinian experts, representatives from various NGOs and think tanks, peace activists, and businesses and government officials share their perspectives on the dynamics of Israeli-Palestinian relations. For the remaining eight weeks, students work in an organization related to conflict resolution, politics, or society in either Israel or Ramallah, the West Bank. Malaysia and Indonesia
Come to understand ASEAN as an important regional body and focus on the issues facing Southeast Asia from the perspective of two of its major players - Malaysia and Indonesia. On this program, you will explore how major global themes play out on a regional stage through site visits, meetings with stakeholders, and field experience. South Africa: Democracy, and Development
This six-week program begins with a two-week seminar hosted at the Democracy in Africa Research Unit (DARU) at the University of Cape Town covering democratization and political reform, decentralization and local governance, public health issues, ethnicity and national identity, and poverty and unemployment. Prominent South African academics, politicians, government officials, and non-governmental activists speak with students about critical issues facing the country and the region. Following the seminar, students have the opportunity to engage in internships with organizations working on issues of governance, business development, social justice, and community outreach. Program site visits and field trips include Parliament; Robben Island, the notorious island prison off the Western Cape; Table Mountain; Cape Peninsula; and a township, a living area of Cape Town created for non-whites during Apartheid. AU Abroad Summer Study and Internships

Summer Law Programs Abroad
American University Washington College of Law’s Summer Law Programs Abroad offer students exciting opportunities to broaden their learning and networking experiences through travel in foreign countries. The law school’s programs in Chile, Europe, Israel, The Hague, and Turkey feature courses that focus on leading specializations including international business and trade, international criminal law, human rights, intellectual property, and environmental law.
Chile
Now in its 23rd year, the Summer Program in Chile offers opportunities to learn and network with dozens of leading faculty, practitioners, government officials, and policy makers. Held in Santiago, Chile and Buenos Aires, Argentina, courses focus on trade and investment in Latin America and comparative legal perspectives on social problems. Co-sponsored with the University of Chile School of Law, the University Diego Portales School of Law, and the University of Buenos Aires School of Law.
Europe - London/Paris/Brussels/Geneva
The Summer Program in Europe introduces law students and attorneys to evolving legal concepts and structures in Europe and in the international arena. Now in its 18th year, the program focuses on the nature and dynamics of European legal institutions and the development of a body of European laws. Courses include International Economic Law, International Human Rights, and International Institutions and Sustainable Development.
Geneva
The Geneva Summer Program on International Organizations, Law and Diplomacy offers students an in-depth look at international issues through direct contact with experts on international trade (WTO), intellectual property (WIPO), labor (ILO), and human rights/humanitarian law (UN human rights institutions and ICRC). This multidisciplinary program on global governance combines legal, diplomatic, and social scientific approaches to the study of multilateralism. Students are encouraged to also enroll in the preceding courses in Washington, DC.
The Hague
The Summer Program in The Hague offers participants an opportunity to study some of the most important legal issues today in the heart of the international justice community. The program includes two three-credit courses: International Criminal Law and International Legal Approaches to Terrorism. Includes site visits to the International Court of Justice, International Criminal Court, International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and more. Co-sponsored with the T.M.C. Asser Institute, The Hague, The Netherlands.
Israel
The Summer Program in Israel brings participants to Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem while studying curriculum focused on regional civil and human rights issues as well as trade and investment. The courses – Selected Topics in Israeli Law and Trade and Investment in Israel - are taught by leading Israeli and Palestinian experts from universities and non-governmental organizations. The program includes site visits to key legal institutions such as Knesset and Supreme Court and renowned sites such as the Dead Sea and Masada.
Turkey
The Summer Program in Turkey provides an opportunity to both law students and American attorneys to learn on site with some of the best Turkish and European law professors and experts in the field and meet practitioners and policy makers from Turkey. The Summer Law Program in Turkey also includes field trips to Ankara, where students will meet World Bank staff, and to Ephesus, one of the world's most important historical sites

China: International Management Practices
Students spend 12 days in China immersed in company visits with senior managers in order to understand first hand the state of economic development and the management strategies and practices used by multinational and “mini-multinational” firms in China. This is an opportunity to fuse classroom theory and learning with actual techniques practitioners use to compete in the global marketplace. Germany: Summer MBA Institute at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management
WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management is one of the most prestigious business schools in Germany. Its European Summer Institute serves as an alternative to a full semester abroad and offers targeted insight on international business in Europe. Students spend two weeks immersed in classroom presentations, company visits, readings, and case analysis to learn about the changing face of business in Europe, culminating in a final report and presentation at the end of the program. The program is designed for MBA or MS students interested in international business, corporate strategy, and/or finance.
