PHIL-105

Fall Semester Seminar, GenEd area 2

In this class we have to survey about 2500 years of philosophical thinking and I find it is easier to manage this with a theme in mind. For this particular class I have chosen Self-Knowledge as a guiding principle to help us relate to the variety of texts we will be reading. One of the questions we will be asking is, why it is that self-knowledge as self-care was so crucial to the ancient thinkers but disappears in the modern discourse.

From the Professor- Andrea Tschemplik

How does your University College section of this course differ from a non-University College section?

More intense reading and writing.

How do your Wednesday labs tie into the academic content of your course?

Since the course is in philosophy we can tie into almost anything. From what I've learned from the students they've really liked visiting think-tanks, the Supreme Court and a variety of the museum alongside the Library of Congress.
