Australian Center for Remote Sensing  -- ACRES
ACRES is a business unit of the Australian government's Surveying and Land Information Group (AUSLIG). ACRES' primary functions are to acquire, process, archive, and distribute remotely sensed data collected by earth observation satellites over Australia, most of Papua New Guinea and eastern Indonesia (East Timor). ACRES routinely receives data from the following satellites: LANDSAT, SPOT, ERS, AVHRR, and JERS (operated by NASDA in Japan). This site also offers on-line answers to FAQ regarding satellite imagery, plus automated ordering for maps of Australia, Antarctica and Pacific islands. Topographic, tourist, aerial and satellite image maps are available. ACRES operates receiving ground stations at Alice Springs and Hobart, Australia.

Australian Geological Survey Organization -- AGSO
AGSO is a gateway to Australian National Geoscience Information System (ANGIS), an Australian government initiative intended to provide on-line access to geo-spatial information now held in paper and data archives. This site includes geological, geophysical and environmental information. The site also includes information on nuclear explosions, including a map of places around the world where nuclear explosions have been detonated.

Commonwealth Spatial Data Committee -- CSDC
This site focuses on GIS and geo-spatial data standards affecting Australia.

Australia -- New Zealand Land Information Council -- ANZLIC
ANZLIC provides an excellent new WWW jumpstation to hundreds of sites concerning remote sensing, GIS and geo-spatial datasets worldwide. Includes calendar, government and professional organization links, extensive dataset infoarranged by country, as well as commercial and educational links.

Australian Land Research Data Centre at the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization -- CSIRO
CSIRO research covers agriculture, minerals and energy, manufacturing, communications, construction, health and the environment, climate change, and soil and plant processes.

Environmental Research Information Network -- ERIN
A project of the Australian Department of the Environment and associated agencies. The ERIN home page is a source for Australian environmental data, and includes data on greenhouse effects and climate change. This site also has great links to environmentally oriented earth observation centers world wide.

Geoimage
Geoimage Pty Ltd is an independent Australian image processing consultancy specializing in the sale and production of satellite imagery.

Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping -- ICSM
ICSM coordinates surveying and mapping operations of state, territory and commonwealth mapping agencies in Australia and New Zealand.

US Central Intelligence Agency/National Reconnaissance Office/NSA Pine Gap facility
Reported to be the most important US center for signals intelligence (SIGINT), military communication,  and satellite telemetry in the southern hemisphere.  Located near Alice Springs in central Australia, the Pine Gap facility is today consolidating many military space functions formerly located in Nurrungar and North West Cape (Australia), the Philippines and other centers being closed due to military downsizing and reorganization.
