ACMAD
ACMAD's objective is to contribute to sustainable development in Africa through investigation of meteorological and climatological domains. Its main activities are short and medium range weather forecasting, climate watch, seasonal forecasting, and  training of African meteorologists in new techniques and technologies. ACMAD is composed  the 53 countries of the continent of Africa. ACMAD is located in Niamey, Niger Republic.

Africa Data Dissemination Service -- ADDS -- US Geological Survey
ADDS provides 1 km. ground resolution AVHRR imagery for Nigeria.  This service includes free downloadable software for image interpretation, an online imagery index, basic maps and an increasing amount of agricultural production data.  Some 10-day averages of vegetation information (NDVI) are available from 1982 to the present.  ADDS includes regional and continent-wide imagery compilations.

ESA Gabon Station Oil Spill Detection
The ground "footprint" for the ERD-series and other synthetic aperture satellites in Gabon facilitates tracking oil spills and other shipping pollution. The best coverage includes the Gulf of Guinea and western coast of central Africa, including the Cabinda enclave of Angola. Waters off the coast of Nigeria can be observed regardless of weather.

Earthsat
Earthsat (http://www.earthsat.com/environ/region) provides infrared satellite imaging, GIS, agricultural and socioeconomic data on Nigeria, usually under contract to the United Nations, national governments, US government agencies, World Bank  or corporations.

European Space Agency (ESA) SAR data for Central Africa
ESA-ESRIN reported in 1996 it had completed and in some instances had ongoing projects testing Synthetic Aperture Radar in Central Africa. Projects included map updating, pipeline planning, volcano monitoring, water pollution and ship detection and others. Imagery and other data is available for Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo (Brazzaville), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria and parts of former Zaire.

Famine Early Warning System - FEWS
This sophisticated U.S. AID-funded project merges weather imagery, rainfall data, ground observation, local price information for agricultural products and related data for the entire continent of Africa. Its objective is to provide early warning of potential food and water crises. Much weather satellite imagery is available online.
