Job Descriptions

Fitness Leader

Individuals are responsible for maintaining a clean and safe facility for members and guests. Specific requirements include cleaning equipment, interacting with members, giving tours, demonstrating the use of equipment and reporting specific problems to the manager. This highly visible job requires an individual who is responsible, outgoing, and enjoys health and wellness. Contact Nick Rolnick at 202-885-6282.

Fitness Leader: Residence Halls

This position is generally the same as the fitness leader at the Jacobs Fitness Center, but supervises the residence hall fitness centers in Letts and McDowell Halls and on the Tenley Campus. We are looking for people who live on campus and are punctual. Preference is given to those with a work study award. Contact Lydia Erb at 202-885-6272.

Member Services Specialist

This position is the main point of contact for the Sports Center and provides information on Fitness Center memberships and on the University in general. Specific requirements include greeting members and guests, checking in members, answering questions and answering the phone.  It is important to have a full understanding of the American University community and the policies and procedures of the facility. This highly visible and interactive job requires computer skills and an energetic, outgoing personality to give quality customer service to anyone who enters the facility. Part-Time Fitness Center Manager

This individual is responsible for the daily operations of the Jacobs Fitness Center and the Reeves Aquatic Center which include supervision of member services staff, fitness leaders, and lifeguards. Specific requirements include facility oversight, member registration, financial transactions, and member issues and concerns. This individual must conduct periodic floor checks, keep accurate facility counts, assist fitness leader staff when/where needed and ensure member satisfaction. Individuals must have basic computer skills, be certified in CPR/AED and First Aid, and will serve as the first responder in emergency situations while on duty. This highly visible job requires a mature, skilled individual, with experience in a fitness facility. This individual must be flexible with early morning, late evening, and weekend availability. Lifeguard

This position ensures the safety of members in and around the Reeves Aquatic Center swimming pools. Lifeguards are responsible for guarding and communicating with members, and performing assigned tasks for pool maintenance. We are looking for responsible and dependable people who are currently certified in Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid. Contact Morgan Munoz at 202-885-3099.

Personal Trainer

Applicants must be energetic and outgoing in addition to having experience in personal training. Candidates should hold a current nationally recognized personal training certification. Current CPR certification is also required and need to be available to meet with clients on a weekly basis. Contact Jacquelyne Chantry at 202-885-2759.

Group Exercise Instructor

Individuals interested in this position must be a nationally certified instructor interested in leading classes as part of our group exercise schedule. Prospective instructors will be required to audition. Contact Jacquelyne Chantry at 202-885-2759.

Intramural Sports Official

Intramural Sports hires and trains referees for all major teams' sports including basketball, flag football, indoor & outdoor soccer, softball, and volleyball. Schedules are flexible to fit week to week academic needs. Employment is contingent on completion of the four-hour, preseason training course. Contact Ryan Amato at 202-885-3050.
