Body comp

Because of the health implications of too much or too little body fat, body composition assessment is an essential component of a physical fitness profile. The measurement of skinfolds is one of the most frequently performed tests to estimate body composition. This quick, noninvasive method provides a fairly accurate assessment of body fat percentage. This methodology is based on the assumption that, as one gains body fat, the increase in skinfold thickness will be proportional to the additional fat weight.

Because gender influences the areas in which fat is stored, separate skinfold equations and sites for men and women are used.

Skinfold Locations
- Women: Triceps, suprailiac (side abdominal area), thigh
- Men: Chest, midaxillary (mid-abdominal area), thigh
