Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap promotes an informed and engaged public discourse on U.S. and global foreign policy challenges and solutions by supporting theory-driven, policy-relevant research and clear communication between scholars and policymakers. Bridging the Gap trains and advocates for academics to pursue policy-relevant research and theoretically grounded policy work while simultaneously engaging policymakers in the work of political scientists and scholars of international relations. Supported largely by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and housed at the School of International Service at American University, Bridging the Gap maintains a core belief that responsible global engagement should be systematically proactive, seeking both to understand significant medium- and long-term global challenges, and to influence strategically how such trends affect U.S. interests and those of the rest of the world.

BTG Network Spotlight

 Organizational Progeny

Congratulations to 2011 IPSI Alumni Tana Johnson for receiving ISA’s 2015 Chadwick Alger Prize for best book on international organization and multilateralism. In her book, Tana examines recent data from nearly 200 international organizations and assesses the “proliferation of organizational progeny over which national governments are literally losing control” as well as what this means “for the democratic nature of global governance and how practitioners can encourage or staunch this phenomenon.” Organizational Progeny showcases how a prize for scholarship can be awarded to those who reach out to policymakers in their research.
