Apartments in Washington, D.C.
Apartments in Washington, D.C. and the metropolitan surrounding areas can be found through a variety of resources. Typically, openings are posted 1-2 months prior to move-in date. Apartments can be found in the classified sections of the following local newspapers:

Directions & Transportation

American University is located on Ward Circle, at the intersection of Massachusetts and Nebraska Avenues, NW, in Washington, DC. The SIS Graduate Admissions Office is located in Clark Hall, Room 101, located directly behind Bender Library on the main AU campus. Transportation

Washington Metro
American University is located on the Metro Red Line at the AU/Tenleytown Stop.  AU's shuttle services provide students, faculty, staff, and guests with a convenient means of traveling between campus, the Washington College of Law, and the Tenleytown Metro station. The shuttle stops at the top of the east side escalator, on 40th St. and Albemarle St., at 10-minute intervals. Ask the bus driver for the best stop for Clark Hall.

Parking For Visitors
Pay-as-you-go machines are available for visitor parking in the Nebraska Commuter Lot at the intersection of Nebraska and New Mexico Avenues.

Parking For Students
A student permit is required for all on-campus parking lots. Further campus parking information.

There is also limited off-campus metered parking. Some on-street parking also requires a permit. In order to obtain a parking permit, contact the Department of Motor Vehicles for the area in which you will reside.

Health Care

Health insurance is required for all full-time students, resident students, and international students on F-1 or J-1 visas. Further information regarding health insurance costs, procedures for application, types of coverage, and any other inquiries.
