The Africa Council is a group of scholars at American University whose research pertains to any part of the continent of Africa. We meet periodically to host a Brown Bag Lunch series in which our own members or guests from the Africanist community discuss their work on African topics. Our goal is to provide a venue for those who study African issues to communicate with each other and make academic connections in order to further their own studies.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Africa Council is to bring together members of the American University community interested in Africa and to promote the discussion of Africa-relevant topics on campus. The Council hosts events that allow for intellectual exchange and interaction with the larger Africanist community, which includes scholars, practitioners, journalists, and activists. Our goal is to ensure that those already engaged with African studies can maintain their interests, and that those who wish to learn more about the continent’s multifaceted nations and peoples can do so.
