Book Launch—Realizing the ASEAN Economic Community: A Comprehensive Assessment
The ASEAN Studies Center and the U.S. Department of State co-hosted the launch of Michael G. Plummer and Dr. Chia Siow Yue’s book Realizing the ASEAN Economic Community: A Comprehensive Assessment, at American University. Dr. Ellen Frost, Visiting Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, and Dr. Mireya Solis, Associate Professor at the School of International Service (AU) and Faculty Fellow at the ASEAN Studies Center, provided commentary at the event. Mr. Plummer and Dr. Chia’s book was undertaken at the request of the ASEAN Secretariat and compiled through the ASEAN-U.S. Technical Assistance and Training Facility, a joint program of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Department of State. The volume was published by the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) in Singapore, a regional center dedicated to the study of socio-political, security, and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia. It represents the first comprehensive study to date of the potential of the ASEAN Economic Community.
