SIS Today

SIS Today

Today, the School of International Service is the largest school of international affairs in the United States with more than 2,500 students from 150 countries. At SIS, we have built a cosmopolitan community that creates knowledge through teaching, research, and public dialogue. Our faculty, remarkably diverse both in terms of academic discipline and professional experience, use innovative approaches to teaching while encouraging students to apply their academic research to practical situations.

Our multidisciplinary curriculum emphasizes the operative word in the school's name: service. The school's eight fields of study provide students with the opportunity to combine high ideals and a pragmatic view of their world with a strong sense of community. In their courses, students take on the central issues of world peace and security, international trade and finance, "Third World" development and human rights, international environmental issues and urbanization, and population control and international terrorism.

As record numbers of highly qualified students apply to our school and enroll in our programs, it becomes increasingly clear that the world today has reinforced our vision in educating students to be of service to the global community. And without question, the School of International Service will keep pace with each development by teaching and equipping students to meet today's issues and confront future challenges.
