Conference: Triumvirate 2007
AU students participated in the first Model North American Parliament, called "Triumvirate," to be held in Washington, D.C. took place at AU. The Triumvirate is a unique parliamentary exercise that annually brings together a hundred university students, from Canada, Mexico and the United States, in order to simulate, during five days, a parliamentary meeting between North American national and sub-national parliamentarians, joined by journalists and lobbyists. This year, the event took place in Washington D.C. in the Inter-American Development Bank and American University, from the 20th to the 25th of May, 2007. AU’s Center for North American Studies co-sponsored the event with the Montreal-based North American Forum on Integration.

Summer Program: Second Annual Triumvirate
Participants simulated for five days a parliament in which participants from Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. took on the role of politicians representing local, provincial/state, or national interests of one of the three countries. Members of parliament represented a country other than their own, proposed and voted on resolutions dealing with everyday challenges confronting the three nations of North America.

A lecture by Dr. Stephen Clarkson, Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto. Forging North American Energy Security
To the extent that governments work to strengthen security, North American energy security is increasingly becoming a priority. During the conference, this topic was addressed in regard to the following aspects:
- Guaranteeing the reliability and physical integrity of energy supply networks;
- Aiming for the growth of North American energy self-sufficiency in the medium and long term;
- Promoting the diversification of energy sources, in particular renewable energies;
- Providing energy at affordable and stable prices;

- Minimizing the environmental impacts of the energy sector.
