We are excited to announce that the Peacebuilding and Development Institute has joined forces with the Center for Global Peace to form a new academic center at the School of International Service called the Center for Peacebuilding and Development.
CPD is an umbrella institution that will maintain all prior programming of CGP and PDI, as well as expand programming in areas of research and peace education. CPD is a center within the School of International Service and hopes to engage students and faculty from all academic programs within SIS.
The Center for Peacebuilding and Development believes that peace, economic, and social prosperity are manifest when differences among peoples and cultures become sources of knowledge and unity and where governance reflects social justice, respect for human rights, and democratic practices. In addition, the Center for Peacebuilding and Development recognizes the inherent value of local resources in constructing frameworks for analysis that evaluate linkages among social, political, cultural, economic and civic structures.
Mission
The Center for Peacebuilding and Development’s mission is to promote a cross-cultural approach to developing and expanding research and practices in peace education, civic engagement, nonviolent resistance, conflict resolution, religion and peace, and peacebuilding in sustainable development context.
Vision
The Center for Peacebuilding and Development’s vision is the establishment of new and innovative approaches to peacebuilding and development that promote just, inclusive, and sustainable communities around the world.
