This month’s dean’s discussion will feature Ambassador Frederick Barton. Ambassador Barton is the Assistant Secretary of State for Conflict and Stabilization Operations and the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization. The new Bureau is responsible for driving the State Department’s efforts to improve U.S. government effectiveness in preventing conflict and addressing crises.
In 2012, CSO focused 80 percent of its effort on four major engagements – Burma, Honduras, Kenya and Syria. CSO also worked in more than 15 other countries, including Afghanistan, Belize, the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan.
