Hon. Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia on July 29, 2015. He is also presently assuming the critical post as the Minister of Home Affairs Malaysia since 2013. Dr Ahmad Zahid was formerly the Minister of Defense from 2009-2013. He first joined the Cabinet as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department from 2008-2009. And prior to his first Ministerial post, Dr Ahmad Zahid was the Deputy Minister of Tourism (2004 to 2006) and Deputy Minister of Information (2006-2008). Dr Ahmad Zahid was a banker by profession before his full-time involvement in politics. He obtained his Dr of Philosophy (PhD) in Communication from Putra University Malaysia in 2008. 

At the political level, Dr Ahmad Zahid is currently assuming the task as a Deputy President of United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and the most senior Vice President UMNO. UMNO is the backbone of the National Front Alliance which is the current ruling Government in Malaysia. Dr Ahmad Zahid is currently the member of Parliament in Bagan Datoh, Perak since 1995.
