NRSD Curriculum

Natural Resources and Sustainable Development (NRSD) Curriculum

The MA program in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development is a dual degree track within the Global Environmental Politics Program. Students study at American University, where they earn an MA in International Affairs, and at the United Nations mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica, where they earn an M.A. in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development. Students spend their first and fourth semesters taking courses at American University, and their second and third semesters taking courses at the University for Peace. The SIS professional experience certification is fulfilled during the summer between the second and third semesters, typically in the form of an internship. Additionally, students take required, not for credit, Spanish language courses in their first and second semesters and must pass a tool of research language proficiency test before graduating.
