International Development (core) (SIS 637)Alternative theories and definitions of development as expressed in the major international institutions (aid agencies, cartels, multinational corporations) concerned with the transfer of resources. Considers the problems of the “change-agent” in working for development and examines the major development issues.
Micropolitics of Development (core) (SIS 636) The objective of this course is an understanding of the survival struggles and strategies individuals face and the choices they make. Some work within credit unions, cooperatives, parties, interest groups, or alone without much group support. Others rely on patrons, prayers, bribes, threats, or combinations of all these resources for survival.

Summer Courses in Peace Building and Development:
The Peacebuilding and Development Summer Institute (in SIS) is
a professional training program that provides knowledge, practical
experience and skills for practitioners, teachers and students involved
in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance and
development. The Summer Institute will focus on various approaches
to mediation, negotiation and reconciliation crucial in conflict-torn
and developing regions. Participants will explore innovative methods
of promoting cultural diversity with respect to public policy, community
and religion, war and post-conflict environments, while expanding
their knowledge and skills in a participatory and interactive learning
environment. These training courses also provide a forum for networking
professionally while challenging Your intellectual curiosity in
each of these areas vital for building and promoting sustainable
