Anna Marie Trester

Anna Marie Trester is a Professorial Lecturer at Georgetown University where she also serves as the Director of the MLC (MA in Language and Communication), a professionally-oriented program in the Department of Linguistics. She has conducted ethnographic research with the Washington, D.C. improvisational theater community, the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), and with Georgetown’s Mc Donough School of Business. Her research interests are focused on the use of language in performance contexts and language in the construction of (professional) identities, and she is currently teaching Language and Social Media and the Ethnography of Communication. . Recent publications include a forthcoming edited volume on language and social media with Georgetown University Press, an article for the Journal Discourse Studies on the role of prankster narratives, and an investigation of silence in the performance of political dissent , which is due to come out this year in an edited volume called The Language of War and Peace from the Oxford Studies in Sociolinguistics series. She received her M.A. in Linguistics from NYU in 2002 and Ph.D. from Georgetown in 2008.
