The 2009 Abdul Aziz Said Scholarship for IPCR Graduate Students

The Abdul Aziz Said Scholarship was created in honor of Professor Said’s 50 years of teaching in the School of International Service, which included eleven years of service as the Founding Director of the International Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) Program.  This scholarship is awarded to a  continuing graduate student (with at least 6 credits completed) who aspires to Professor Said’s lifelong commitment to global peace, intercultural understanding, and promotion of human rights and human dignity through the pursuit of public service and social justice as core foundations of peace.  This scholarship is awarded annually to an IPCR student who demonstrates a commitment to these core principles. Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Scholarship Program for IPCR Graduate Students

Fall 2009 Award Announcement! 

Each year, the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Foundation donates the amount of $1000 to the Division of International Peace & Conflict Resolution (IPCR) and $1000 to the Center for Global Peace to be awarded to two students who, in their first year as Master’s candidates have demonstrated a commitment to service and to peace. One award will be granted in the fall semester and one will be granted in the spring semester.

Criteria

  • The student has demonstrated a commitment to expanding ideas of peace, nonviolence, peace education or other aspects of peace promoted by the IPCR program.
  • The student has demonstrated a commitment to activities promoting these and other aspects of peace, past and present, through service within and outside the American University community.
  • The fall prize will be given to a student beginning his/her second year while the spring prize will be give to a first-year graduate student in the International Peace & Conflict Resolution Program.
