Vice Mayor Allison Silberberg, SIS/BA '84, is the mayor-elect of Alexandria, VA. The Democrat, who will be the city’s first new mayor in more than a decade, won the election on Tuesday, November 3 with more than 63 percent of the vote. She defeated a last-minute write-in campaign by four-term incumbent Bill Euille.
Silberberg won the Democratic mayoral primary in June by more than 300 votes. She was elected to the Alexandria City Council in 2012. An advocate for social justice issues, Silberberg has worked to address social needs and foster civic engagement in the community.
During her election night party at Los Tios in Del Ray, Silberberg thanked supporters for creating a “new day” for Alexandria. “It is a new day and a time for change, and that’s what voters said across the city,” said Silberberg. “We have a shared sense of purpose that I will stand for going forward.”
