Any changes to a registration must adhere to the following deadlines and will be subject to the refund policy.

 

         REGISTRATION CHANGES               DEADLINES           
         
 
Note: Start dates of AU courses correspond with the start date of the NSLC program associated with the AU course.
 
         
  Add/Drop a Course      
         
  Last day to drop a course and receive a refund:   30 days prior to the start date of the AU course  
         
  Last day to add a course:   Start date of the AU course  
         
  Last day to drop a course without a “Withdrawal” notation on the student’s AU record:   First day of the AU course  
         
  Last day to drop a course (after which students cannot drop a course and will receive a grade; a drop between the second day of the course and this deadline will result in a “Withdrawal” on the student’s AU record):   Fourth day of the NSLC program  
         
  Change the Number of Credits      
         
  Last day to reduce a credit (i.e., drop from 2 to 1 credit) and receive a refund of the difference:   30 days prior to the start date of the AU course  
         
  Last day to add a credit (i.e., increase from 1 to 2 credits for those courses that offer a 2-credit option):   First day of the AU course  
         
  Change of Grade Type      
         
  Last day to change the grade type (e.g., letter grade or pass/fail):   First day of the AU course  

 

Communicating Changes in Registration

Changes in registration prior to the first day of the AU course should be communicated directly with the NSLC.

Any changes in registration on or after the first day of the AU course must be communicated to the NSLC first and then to American University by emailing collegecredit@american.edu.

Refunds for dropping a Course

Upon written notification of cancellation received by the NSLC at least 30 days prior to the start date of the session in which the student is registered, all tuition paid for an AU course will be refunded. If a student cancels registration (or reduces the number of credits) within 29 days of the start of the session in which the student is registered for an AU course, or leaves while a program is in session, no refunds will be permitted. This policy is necessary to account for the program costs incurred with each enrollment.
