Internship Positions  

The Peacebuilding & Development Institute, within the School of International Service and the International Peace & Conflict Resolution program at American University, is offering several internship positions for undergraduates and graduate students.  PDI fosters knowledge, practical experience, and skills for scholars and practitioners in the fields of conflict resolution, peacebuilding and development. The keystone of PDI is its world renowned summer training program which welcomes individuals from over 30 countries each year.  PDI also facilitates year-round trainings, symposia and capacity building programs on issues such as children in armed conflict, development and conflict, curriculum development, reconciliation, mediation, dialogue and conflict sensitive humanitarian practice within and among communities from troubled regions and in Washington DC.  

Internship Overview  

Interns and volunteers of varying ages, skill levels, and academic backgrounds will be exposed to issues related to conflict resolution and peacebuilding.

Successful candidates will work alongside PDI’s director and team, gaining hands-on experience as they assist with program design, management, evaluation, correspondence, research, marketing, fund-raising, grant writing, and conference organizing.  Interns are encouraged to take initiative and ownership of various projects as they work both individually and in teams.   Internships are unpaid and may be taken for academic credit.   See below for more details.  

Requirements

The Peacebuilding & Development Institute requires a weekly 15 hour commitment for all intern positions.  We seek highly motivated and open-minded candidates who enjoy working in teams.  A personal and academic interest in international relations, communication, peacebuilding and / or conflict resolution is helpful.
