
The Youth and Gender Initiative highlights the priority of the Peacebuilding & Development Institute to incorporate youth and gender issues into all of its conflict-sensitive training courses, including the Summer Professional Training Program and the South and Southeast Asia Regional Training Program. PDI also emphasizes the intentional inclusion of youth and women participants in peace processes as well as its trainings, workshops, and peacebuilding forums, as both youth and women have proven to be innovative and effective as agents of change in their communities.

PDI hosted
a unique conference in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson Center that brought
together practitioners, students, and youth from conflict zones in various
parts of the world to discuss innovative ideas about youth issues in conflict
and disaster areas.

Soldiers and the Northern Uganda Conflict
An interactive
internet broadcast of experts discussing the issues related to child soldiers
in the Northern Uganda conflict. This broadcast was viewed in six countries
and had 188 participants.

PDI screened this film dealing with child labor, followed by a panel discussion with the film's
directors.
* Reintegration
of Child Soldiers
PDI collaberated with Human Rights Watch to assist The
Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers in hosting the release of their
report "Reintegration of Child Soldiers." This
included a week of events highlighting international children's issues.
