Program Structure:

Core and Elective System:

This system is designed with the understanding that practitioners need a strong grasp of certain concepts in the field of Peace and Conflict Resolution to be effective in their missions. Most important among these is the reliance of peacebuilding on development.

The core courses are designed to reinforce timeless, universal issues in the field. As evident in the table, these courses have been carried over from last year. These courses will augment the knowledge of participants and provide a foundation for participants to build upon in the future.

Conversely, the elective courses will adjust to address current issues, and provide a great deal of flexibility for participants who already have the foundation knowledge. Electives give PDI the opportunity to keep its curriculum contemporary by changing it on an annual basis. Since students will only be able to take one course per week, the new system will allow them to choose which classes they deem relevant to their field.
