The SIS alumni chapter has had a busy fall and we were happy to see many of you at our events. In November, we were proud to host the SIS Annual Dinner honoring Professor Abdul Aziz Said. The event was held in the new Katzen Art Center and was a spectacular gathering of SIS professors, alumni and friends. Also in November, SIS alums gathered for our bi-annual Dinner and Discussion at Old Ebbitt Grill for an in-depth presentation and friendly conversation with Al Matano, Deputy Director of Afghanistan/Pakistan Programs at the U.S. Department of State on counter-narcotics policy in the Middle East regions. In December, SIS alumni gathered for a morning of community service at the Capital Area Food Bank. Other events this fall included social gatherings like our monthly “Movers and Shakers” happy hours, and a panel discussion on buying your first home.
Our spring event season started off with a panel discussion on money management and starting your own business, featuring Senior Financial Advisor for Ameriprise Financial, Maura Schauss and independent mortgage broker, Josh Winston.
On March 21st we held our spring Dinner and Discussion featuring Dr. Pat Morris, Director of Programs at Women for Women International. Dr. Morris discussed women infrastructure development and women’s human rights in Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
The Alumni Chapter has also undergone a face-lift! Laiza Casas has stepped down as AA president, and Nikki Graham (BA ’01) and Melina Olmo (BA ’99) have assumed leadership as Co-Chairs. Check out the alumni website for their contact information.
