Peacebuilding & Development Institute Ready for Summer 2007 Training Program

In June, SIS’s Peacebuilding & Development Institute will kick off its 7th annual summer professional training program.  Since 2001, the program has hosted members of the AU community and participants from around the globe.  This unique international forum is spearheaded by the director of PDI, Dr. Mohammed Abu-Nimer and the associate director Saji Prelis.  The 2007 program in Washington is geared toward government officials, foreign aid workers, and others working in conflict and transition areas.  The program is expected to draw nearly 200 participants. Students have the opportunity to not only network with practitioners but also learn from people living and working in conflict areas about some innovative ways of addressing issues various communities are facing.

PDI has several components: Trainings & Symposia, the Summer Institute, the Children and Youth Division, the Peacebuilding Forums, and International Programs.  Due to its popularity and success, the PDI training program will expand overseas.  In April, it will launch its first three week Asia-wide regional training program in Sri Lanka.  In 2009, there are plans to hold a similar program in East Africa.
