WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GNP PROGRAM AS AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MENTOR?

I had several study abroad experiences as an undergrad and while the schools helped us adjust, there were definitely times where it would have been helpful to have a local student to ask questions. School administration can’t always tell you what classes are the most interesting or where to find the best pizza. Being a mentor will let me be that resource for an international student at AU.

WHAT IS A FAVORITE EVENT OR ACTIVITY YOU HAVE PARTICIPATED IN AT SIS OR IN WASHINGTON, DC?

It’s not a specific activity, but I’m really enjoying all the different restaurants DC has to offer. I’ve had so many different cuisines in the short time I’ve been here and seen to many other places that I need to try. It’s great having access to food from all over the world.

HOW DO YOUR CROSS-CULTURAL SKILLS ALLOW YOU TO BEST ASSIST AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT?

I like to think that my experiences abroad have made me not only more open minded but also better able to put myself in someone else’s shoes. I know how stressful it can be moving to a new country and having to adapt quickly, on top of trying to settle into classes almost immediately.
