Apply the skills and knowledge gained in the classroom as a professional in the field of IR. This summer, practice what you have learned.
SIS maintains partnerships through professional and alumni contacts all over the world. Through this network, it endeavors to connect current graduate students with high-caliber internship opportunities each summer. Each internship position focuses on a different content and skill area, but each is worth 3 SIS summer credits. These credits can be applied to the research requirement in SIS.
Vary by internship
Graduate students from any SIS field may apply. All applicants must demonstrate academic excellence with a GPA of at least 3.0, an interest in the content/skill area of the internship, and cross-cultural communication skills.
Students are responsible for all travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses associated with the internship for which they are accepted. Students are required to commit to at least 180 hours of work for the full 3 credits. In some cases, an SIS or host organization scholarship may be available.
Each internship will offer some travel or housing support. Details for specific internships available upon request.

Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India
Research Assistant (2 positions available)
Description: Research-based position. Research is related to the Foundation's various community development projects. Interns may provide other substantive support according to the needs of the Foundation and the background of the incumbent.
Content Area: Distress migration, natural resource management, sustainable rural development, capacity building for microfinance and self-help-promoting institutions, regional and international NGO cooperation, economic empowerment and self-determination of marginalized groups
Dates: Eight weeks. June - July (flexible start date, but both interns should begin at the same time)

Description: Research-based position. Research may include governance, gender, HIV/AIDS, environment, etc… depending on the needs of the office and the background of the incumbent.
Preferred skill: Arabic.
Content Area: Development, Gulf states, international organizations, other (as prescribed by research assignments).
Dates: Negotiable, preferred for a period of 6 weeks or more

Research Intern
Description: Research and writing-based internship. Intern will be responsible for researching/writing a literature review on addressing corruption in fragile states, providing support to U4's work on measuring the impact of anti-corruption interventions, updating thematic pages on U4's website, and providing support for conferences and panels. Anti-Corruption/Legal Intern
Description: Research and analysis position. Intern will work with a team of experts preparing for the upcoming Phase 3 evaluations under the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention monitoring mechanism. Tasks may include completing analysis of corruption situation facing specific companies in target countries (UK and Hungary), and research of ongoing corruption cases, research and analysis of codes of conduct. Nairobi, Kenya
Human Rights and Constitutional Law Intern
Description: Intern will work under the supervision of the Team Leader in the Research and Development division on the following: 1) Monitoring constitutional and human rights law litigation and case law in Kenya; 2) Receiving and reviewing judicial opinions and conducting background legal research on the opinions; 3) Identifying and evaluating the emerging constitutional and human rights law jurisprudence in comparison to jurisprudence under the previous constitution on Kenya; 4) Preparing summaries of judicial opinions and media reports.
Preferred Skill: Background in comparative constitutional and human rights law jurisprudence; good legal research, analysis, and report writing skills.
Content: Human rights law, constitutional law, comparative law, Africa.
Dates: 6 weeks beginning in mid-May (dates negotiable)
