Intersession Study Abroad: India

Expand your horizons with site visits and guest lectures on the Indian subcontinent. This program takes you to three locations in India to engage with communities and professionals to address the myriad security issues facing South Asia.

Academic Details

This ten-day, 3-credit program explores the many facets of security in India and South Asia. Students spend the first few days in New Delhi where they examine Indian national security issues. Students then travel together to Bhubaneswar, Orissa to study human security in the rural Indian context. Finally, the group examines the links between the environment, cultural identity and human security in Puri, Orissa.

Site Visits

Students enjoy a variety of historic and cultural site visits that could include the Red Fort, the Gandhi Memorial, Indian Parliament and the Presidential Palace, the Sun Temple of Konark, and local musical and theatrical performances.

Program Costs

AU tuition plus program fee.

Who Should Attend

Graduate students in all majors and disciplines from any AU college or school. Advanced undergraduates who have completed at least 60 credits toward the completion of their degrees or are enrolled in the Honors program are also welcome to apply. All students must demonstrate academic achievement, an interest in issues covered in the seminar, and the ability to adapt to a cross-cultural environment.

Logistics

Students are responsible for air travel to and from New Delhi. Students will be accommodated in double rooms in tourist-class hotels for the duration of the trip.
