Apply to the Undergraduate Honors Program

The application deadline for Fall 2017 is March 22, 2017 at 5:00 PM. All application materials, including statement of interest, unofficial transcript, and letters of recommendation, must be submitted by this date to be considered for the program. Please scroll down for the application form.

Students should apply for the SIS Honors program during the second semester of their sophomore year. The following students are eligible to apply:

  • Desire to undertake a significant independent research project during the senior year
  • Declared SIS major
  • Major GPA of 3.67 or above and overall GPA of 3.50 or above
  • Second-semester sophomore standing (at least 45 earned credit hours)
  • Successful completion of SISU-206 (Introduction to International Studies Research)

Students participating in other Honors and Scholars programs on campus who meet the above criteria are eligible to apply for SIS Honors. Transfer students who meet the above criteria are eligible to apply after they have earned 15 credit hours at AU.

Applications to SIS Honors must include:

  • A 500-word statement that explains why you are applying to SIS Honors
  • An unofficial transcript (which includes the grade received for SISU-206)
  • Letter of recommendation from an SIS faculty member (uploaded by the SIS faculty member) 
  • Survey completed by the SIS Advising office (uploaded directly by the office) 

Applications are reviewed by a standing committee of SIS Honors program faculty, and students will be notified of the committee’s decision by the end of their sophomore year.

Students denied admission may appeal during the subsequent semester by reapplying with an updated statement and transcript.
